Last week we received a memo from Channel One food bank that they would temporarily have to stop offering eggs at their food shelves. Eggs had gone up $20 per case between August delivery and September delivery. A friend picked up 3 lbs. of butter for me for holiday baking when she was at an out-of-town grocer because it had been announced that they had the best butter prices in the state. Eating lunch out which I could easily do for $10 pre-covid now costs at least $15, often more. The price of food has increased drastically...but then there is this... attendance at Fare for All is down. I can’t make any sense of it.
Fare For All is a pop-up grocery store, selling packs of fresh produce and frozen meat at up to 40% off of retail prices. They are a part of a Minnesota’s non-profit organization called The Food Group. The best part is that Everyone and anyone can shop at Fare for All, and it comes right here to Red Wing monthly. Shop for quality, nutritious foods at discount and budget-friendly prices. Far for All follows a co-op model. meaning the more people who shop, the better the discounts. Stop down and save money while helping others!
Fare For All buys fresh produce and frozen meat in bulk from wholesalers, manufacturers, and growers. Volunteers bundle it into $10 – $30 packages that are sold at various locations across the state.
No pre-registration required! No names taken or lists compiled. You arrive, fill out an order slip letting us know which boxes you’d like. By shopping Fare for All you are helping those who cannot afford to purchase fresh produce in local stores. It’s a win for you, for them and for all of us at United Way who want to ensure people have access to healthy, affordable food choices.
